We are deeply committed to the good news of the Christian gospel. We seek to live as a community nurtured by the rhythms of the Christian year. We strive to model biblical equality through co-gendered leadership. We care about social justice.

Epiphany 5, 10:00 a.m.
February 5, 2012
This Sunday’s readings are Isaiah 40:21-31, Psalm 147, 1 Corinthians 9:16-23, and Mark 1:29-39. The poetic reading from Isaiah was rhetorically powerful for an ancient people surrounded by powerful nations with “other gods.”  But as Walter Brueggeman puts it, “There is no alternative source of life in the world except Yahweh. Any other reliance is foolishness that is sure to fail.” Psalm 147 is an affirmative song of praise to the institutor and maintainer of all nature and civilization.  The gospel passage from Mark shows Jesus healing many people including Simon’s mother-in-law.  People were being drawn to Jesus, and he was traveling among the towns to spread the gospel. Rev. Rebecca Letterman preaches, and Pastor Doug Cullum presides at Table.
